Capital
of the UK!

Newquay is where British surfing began. From a 4* hotel on the headland above Fistral Beach, your group surfs every morning, coasteers the slate cliffs and paddleboards the coves, and spends a day with lifeguards learning the rescue skills the RNLI teaches.

Explore the coastline

Newquay’s coast is slate cliffs, dunes and small coves you reach on foot or from the water. Grey seals pass through most days, dolphins with a bit of luck, and at low tide the rock pools fill with crabs and anemones. Coasteering, surfing or paddleboarding, the group spends the week outdoors on one of the best stretches of coast in the country, with guides who explain the geology as they go.

Ocean Education

Spend a day with qualified lifeguards learning how to look after yourself and each other in the sea, using the rescue techniques the RNLI teaches. Through games and challenges on the beach, students learn to spot a rip current, the cause of most rescues on British beaches, get through the waves, carry out a basic rescue and give first aid. They are skills they keep for life and use on every beach after Cornwall.

All-inclusive packages

Everything is arranged before you arrive. We work with the hotel, surf school, activity providers and restaurants in Newquay to put together one price that covers the lot, and our Trip Leader is with you for the whole trip, so if the surf moves to the afternoon or a student needs something, there is someone there to sort it.

SURFING IN CORNWALL

Waves for all levels

Our learn-to-surf programme at Fistral is built around time in the water and catching waves. First-timers learn to pop up and ride the whitewater; students who already surf work on turns and reading the sets with their instructor. Everyone surfs every day in a Rip Curl wetsuit and rash vest, and the confidence lasts well beyond the week.

Reliable conditions

Fistral faces west into the Atlantic, so the swell that reaches it has crossed thousands of miles of open ocean before it breaks on sand. Summer waves are smaller and ideal for learning, while spring and autumn bring bigger surf for groups who want it. Newquay has hosted Britain’s biggest surf contests since the 1980s.

Local knowledge

Your instructors have surfed this coast for years and know what the tide and wind are doing before the group reaches the sand, and all of them are DBS checked, coaching qualified and lifeguard trained. Most sessions are at Fistral, with Great Western round the headland when it is the better call that day, so students surf the beach that suits them and pick up how to read the sea along the way.

ACCOMMODATION

You stay at the Esplanade, a 4* hotel above Fistral Beach, two minutes’ walk from the sand. Bedrooms are spacious, with modern en-suite bathrooms. Students share rooms of two to six, and staff have twin or private rooms.

There is plenty of room to spread out in the evenings: a games room, a cinema room, a heated indoor pool and a private outdoor terrace with pickleball. Breakfast, packed lunches and a two-course evening meal are served in the hotel’s sea-view restaurant, with a lounge next door and reception staffed around the clock.

As a teacher, it’s a stress-free experience thanks to the great communication through our rep and overall quality of everything on offer.
Harrow School
We have used this company for our year 8 school trip for the past two years and are returning to Cornwall for our third year running. I cannot speak highly enough of all of the staff. Will and Robbie are super organised and communication is fantastic. They make booking, organising and running a school trip a very easy experience. I would highly recommend
