one of Africa’s
longest waves!
Morocco is where European surfers go for winter sun, and Tamraght, a small village on the coast north of Agadir, is the heart of it. The group stays in a private surf villa 15 minutes from the beach, surfs twice a day on gentle beach breaks, and spends the days off in Paradise Valley and on the dunes at Tamri. It is a surf trip, and it is also the first time most students will have seen the Atlas Mountains, eaten a tagine cooked for them, or heard Berber music played live.

SURF TWICE A DAY
The day starts with breakfast, then a morning surf lesson and an afternoon one, with a picnic lunch on the beach between them. The instructors pick the spot each day from 25 local breaks, so beginners learn on the sand at Banana Beach or Devil’s Rock, 15 minutes on foot from the villa, and students who already surf are taken further up the coast when the waves suit them.
WHERE YOU STAY
Most groups take the private surf villa in Tamraght, a Moroccan house for up to 24 students and three staff, with three terraces, a heated rooftop pool, a yoga shala and a lounge for film nights, 15 minutes on foot from the beach. For a larger group, or a school that wants a hotel, there is the Radisson surf resort at Taghazout Bay with its own surf academy and direct beach access.
DAYS OFF THE BOARD
Paradise Valley is a half day with a local guide, with a drive into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, a walk down a palm-lined gorge and a swim in the natural rock pools. Sandboarding is a morning at the Tamri dunes, an hour up the coast, where the group rides foam surfboards with the fins taken off down the sand, then surfs at Imsouane, one of the longest waves in Africa. The souks of Agadir and Taghazout fill a last afternoon.
